Hello! This year, our family team will be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes for our 11th year, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $1.25 million. Last year we raised over $980,000 to fund research to cure, treat, and prevent type 1 diabetes. This year will only be better! Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children. There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Dean was diagnoised on August 25th, 2002 at two years old with Type 1 juvenile diabetes. His blood sugars were in the high 700's. He was in a shock slipping into a diabetic coma. He spent a week at Phoenix Children's Hospital and since then Dean has had over 8,000 shots and has had his fingers pricked over 5,000 times. Dean is a happy, go-lucky kid with a great personality.
He loves his family, friends, and pets. He enjoys building with his legos, playing video games, sports, and loves learning new things. Dean is a normal, active thirteen year old boy, but when his diabetes hits hard it takes a huge toll on his body. Our family's hope for Dean and other juvenile diabetics is to find a CURE!!
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Our family team ask that you please join us in supporting TEAM DEAN BETTS by helping us reach our family goal of $2,000 towards finding a cure. Together, we can make the cure a reality!!
