As the Executive Director of the Desert Southwest Chapter of JDRF, l am proud to be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease. And there is SO MUCH HOPE. Recently, I had the opportunity to visit a lab where they are developing the prototype for the encapsulation device. How thrilling to hold this device in your hand knowing that it will be in human trials early next year and could be a workable "cure" for most people with T1D for a two year period of time before it needs to be replaced with a simple procedure. This encapsulation device will dramatically change the quality of life for people with T1D. But this one lab requires $1.5 million a MONTH to continue their work. That's why I've formed this team.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
There are so many people who are "my #1." - Grace G., Davis S., Vickie L., Mindy B., Addie R., Haley M., Mary Kate K., - adults and kids alike who struggle with pricking their fingers to test their blood sugar 8 to 10 times a day, being stressed about rising or dropping glucose levels, struggling to manage how exercise will impact their health.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today? Let's make the goal TODAY!
Thank you for your support!
