Because someone asked, and to clear up any confusion - please be assured that when you click on "Donate to Lonna" above, it really means that you will "Donate through Lonna" to the JDRF on behalf of Daryn. Your name will be listed as donor on Daryn's JDRF team page (if you select that option).
100% of your donation will go to the JDRF on Daryn's behalf. It is tax deductible, and you will receive a receipt in your name from the JDRF. (And a thank-you from Daryn as well!)
As a member of Daryn's Team (Daryn's Dynamos), I'll be taking part also in this year's Walk to Cure Diabetes on November 2nd at Tempe Town Lake in Tempe AZ. I hope that those of you who are local will join us to walk to raise awareness for this cause. The link above will provide more detailed information about the walk.
As most of you know, my granddaughter Daryn was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes this year at the age of 7, and it dramatically changed her care-free little life. And for the first time we all became aware of how devastating this lifelong disease can be.
Daryn has to have several shots a day for the rest of her life. She has to check her blood levels many times a day to guard against damage to her kidneys & other organs, to protect her eyesight, and to avoid going into a coma that could result in her death. Her food has to be measured to calculate the dosage of the injections she will need to cover each meal. She has to have injections at school every day before she can eat lunch, which consists of "special" food that she takes with her to school. She must carry a kit of insulin and syringes with her wherever she goes and must monitor her activities, paying constant attention to her physical symptoms.
Daryn is a little trooper and has a positive attitude. She is doing her best to make her life as normal as possible, even though there are days when she "doesn't feel so good". Unfortunately, there is no cure yet for type 1 diabetes. So we are participating in this effort to raise awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fdtn. (JDRF) with the hope that a cure will soon be found for her and for all the others who've been stricken with this pernicious disease.
Please support Daryn by making a tax-deductible donation to the JDRF on her behalf by clicking "Donate to Lonna" (i.e. Donate through Lonna). Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
Thanks so much!
