Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) on February 25, 2013. My mom stayed in the hospital with me for three days. It was a scary and confusing time for my family and me. Although I can do everything that my friends can do and am the same sweet little girl I always was, Type 1 Diabetes has changed my life forever. It is a life-threatening autoimmune disease. My pancreas stopped producing insulin, which is essential to the ability to get energy from food. It could not have been prevented and there is no cure.
I get an insulin shot in my arm, leg or belly before breakfast and before dinner every day. I have to eat a specific amount of carbs at every meal and check my blood sugar 5-6 times a days, including in the middle of the night. Diabetes is hard.
Insulin is not a cure for my diabetes, only a treatment to stay alive. I can never take a break from diabetes. It is 24/7 and goes everywhere with me. It is there on Halloween, on school trips, on vacation, and at gymnastics.
I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
