Welcome to our teams 3rd year WALKING to CURE type 1 Diabetes. We look forward to seeing everyone on October 12th. Remember this year JDRF has adopted a BLUE theme. This means go blue crazy! Wear blue, color your hear blue, bring blue props. Spencer from the VIBB and John Palminteri will be this years judges to which team showed the most blue.
As many of you already know, Madison was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was just shy of her fourth birthday on November 11th, 2004. She is an amazing girl, never letting her diabetes get in the way of anything she wants to do, from hiking Mt Whitney, to swimming for Santa Barbara's Swim Club, and playing Basketball and Softball throughout the year. In the 4th grade Madison took on the responsibility of having an insulin pump connected to her 24/7 which has also granted her a new found freedom of not having to take syringe shots multiple times a day. With this freedom still comes the responsiblity of monitoring her sugar levels and accounting for every carb she eats. With time she hopes and dreams that there will be a cure to diabetes, that children with diabetes can eat all the sugar they want without having to count carbs, or not have to wait to test and dose while everyone eats away.
When Madison was asked if she wanted to walk to cure diabetes her answer "Yeah!" came with enthusiasm and a smile. Madison with her family and freinds will walk October 12th at Leadbetter Beach and would love to see everyone out there (even if you don't want to walk the full 5K).
We are also asking for a small donation (5, 10, 20 dollars) or even a big donation (50,100, 250 dollars) to aid research in finding a cure. The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.
The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look around and see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
Each member of our team is already hard at work in their fundraising. If you have taken time to visit our team page today, we ask that you consider making a donation or joining our team. To make a team donation, click on the "Donate" button at the top of this page or if you would like to make your gift to one of the team members please click on their name below. Thank you. Together, we will cure type 1 diabetes and its complications!
