Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! Julia, Lyra and I will be taking part in this year's Walk as Malibu Pumpers - Team Julia Halprin Jackson. We're raising funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D).
We'll be doing the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Oct. 7, 2012, a 5K around the State Capitol. We're teaming up with one-half million others across the country as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million.
T1D is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
When Julia was diagnosed with T1D in 2001, we set a goal to see it CURED. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, T1D is an autoimmune disease requiring injected insulin and many daily finger pricks to stay alive. We help by raising money for JDRF, which was started by parents like us. JDRF has funded $1.6 billion in research, put a cure in sight, and earned an 'A' rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. You can help by sponsoring us. (All donations are tax deductible!)
Julia received her master's degree in creative writing at UC Davis in June and got a job! She's an assistant editor at UC Santa Cruz Extension in Silicon Valley and is living in San Jose where her boyfriend Ryan teaches high school. She's done 3 half-marathons and is planning more! Check out her awesome blog: http://juliaintheraw.blogspot.com.
As we like to say, Here's to a cure!
