Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! Lyra (my mom), Alan (my dad), Ryan (my fiance) and I will be taking part in this year's Walk as Malibu Pumpers - Team Julia Halprin Jackson. We're raising funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D) - a cause that is important to me!
We will participating in the Walk to Cure Diabetes on Oct. 6, 2013 around the State Capitol. We're teaming up with one-half million others across the country as we try to reach our goal of raising $90 million.
T1D is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
When I was diagnosed with T1D in 2001, we set a goal to see it CURED. Unlike Type 2 diabetes, T1D is an autoimmune disease requiring injected insulin and many daily finger pricks to stay alive. We help by raising money for JDRF, which was started by parents in 1970. JDRF has funded $1.6 billion in research, put a cure in sight, and earned an 'A' rating from the American Institute of Philanthropy. You can help by sponsoring us. (All donations are tax deductible!)
I'm an assistant editor at UCSC Extension Silicon Valley and am living in San Jose where Ryan teaches high school. I've done 4 half-marathons (with Ryan's mother!) and recently attended the Bread Loaf Writer's Conference on a work-study scholarship. Read more at juliahalprinjackson.com.
As we like to say, Here's to a cure!
