There is not much to say that most of you do not already know. This disease affects my son everyday, which as a parent is the hardest part to watch. The unknown of what lies ahead in his future is always difficult and scary.
Gavyn has been a trooper and fighter from the beginning, his attitude towards his disease is like that of any teen. He doesn't believe that this is his life, or that this will affect him forever. However, he does what he is supposed to and takes care of himself. He is responsible and great (most of the time)!!!
My dream is that one day he will not have to worry about how this disease affects his life. That he will not have to poke himself multiple times a day, worry about his carb intake, or how much insulin is left in his pod. That we can sleep through the night and not wake in a panic fearing the worst. It is horrible to see you baby feel so sick that he thinks he is going to throw up or pass out, just because he worked out so hard his blood sugar drops. He deserves a long and healthy life.
We have been so fortunate not to have any emergencies, but so many I know have had so many close calls and tragedies that it is a daily fear.
Please help us to avoid these issues. To squash them and put diabetes in its place, to history and not to future lives.
Help us find a cure!
