Every single day since August 16, 2004, our oldest grandson, Robby has survived living with Type 1 Diabetes. Living with diabetes looks easy to most people. You can't tell by looking at Robby that there is something terribly wrong going on inside his body, or I should say, something not going on.
Robby's body does not make insulin. Every living mammal needs insulin to survive, and his body doesn't make a drop! He is really good at making it look easy to live with diabetes but it is hard work and he can never ever take a break!
Every low blood sugar completely throws off his day. He battles confusion, nausea, cold sweats, and trembling and his heart pounds. He then spends an hour or more trying to recover from being completely deprived of the glucose his body needs in order to function!
Every high blood sugar makes him feel like mud is running through his veins, puts his brain in a thick fog, and makes him feel about as energetic as sloth.
We thank God every day that he has become really good at keeping himself alive and healthy!
JDRF funded research is our best hope for Robby, our other grandchildren and your loved ones to be free from diabetes. Won't you please help us find a cure?
