Join me in my fight against type 1 diabetes!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!

I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D), including myself. The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.

Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.

I was diagnosed with type 1 Diabetes exactly one month after my 16th birthday. Living with Diabetes is not easy, as constant precautions have to be made to control blood glucose levels. Since the disease is hormonal, my emotions have a strong effect on the disease. It was a struggle in the beginning learning how to administer insulin injections and count carbohydrates. For the first 6 years with my disease, I administered a minimum of 4 injections per day and more if I wanted to eat more or my glucose levels were high. My glucose levels were a constant roller coaster until 4 years ago I decided to go on an insulin pump.

Insulin pumps and continuous glucose monitors have made controlling my diabetes much easier, however I still have my bad days where my sugar levels are a constant roller coaster, and I continue to have to prick my finger 5-10 times daily. I am hesitant to do strenuous exercise in fear that my glucose levels will drop as I have had several scares hiking and in the heat. I know living with this disease will always be a constant struggle until a cure is found and it is for that reason that I ask for any type of help you can provide to JDRF.

JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every day scientists pull together to find cures for the millions of individuals with T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.

Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift however small or large, will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?

Thank you for your support!
