Hi Everyone... Please support Team Eric by selecting:
DONATE TO TEAM MEMBER - Walker, Eric Riegelsberger. He is watching his personal totals every day. It is an exciting time when he logs on and see the new donation total climb:
As many of you know, our youngest, Eric, at the age of 3, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. Now 9, and in Third Grade. He enjoys playing sports (soccer, swimming, and baseball). For all intents and purposes, he has a normal life and is free of any emotional stigma from having diabetes.
However, Eric still has his difficult days, as you can imagine. Diabetes can be a challenge for an adult, much less a child. There was one difficult day that comes to mind that depicts Eric's dream to live free from Diabetes.
Eric was 5 years old, and as I was tucking him in to bed, he said, "Mom, do they have our number?".
"Does who have our number?" I asked him.
"The doctors", he said
"Yes, they do.", I replied.
"Which number will they call, home or your cell?", he asked.
"When they confirm your appointments, they call my cell", I told him.
"But what number will they call when they want me to come-in to fix my diabetes?", he asked. It was a pivotal moment for our family. Our hearts melted as we realized how deeply Eric holds the dream that one day he will live without diabetes.
For the past four years, Eric has been working as a Juvenile Diabetes Ambassador. He as worked the JDRF Gala fund-raiser, the JDRF Dodge-ball tournament. the JDRF Golf Tournament, made over 25 visits to Walgreens and Marshalls stores to thank them for their fundraising efforts.
He even wrote and essay about his life with Diabetes. It was awarded by the PTA Reflections program a second place at the District Level. Eventually, it was sent on to Congress in support of the Special Diabetes Program which supports several actions to both improve the management of this devasting and life threatening disease. It includes one item that Eric is looking forward to seeing released, the artificial pancreas.
Eric has also created TEAM ERIC for the JDRF WALK FOR A CURE on Sunday November 3, 2013.
