Hi Family & Friends
This year on Saturday, November 9, 2013, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes in San Diego.
Our team is called "Tori's Dream Team!"
I was diagnosed with Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, exactly 4 years on walk day. Even though I’ve learned to live with this disease, it’s not easy. Everyday it feels like I’m on an endless roller-coaster ride. I’m in middle school now, and it’s not easy to be a preteen and have diabetes. I wish I ONLY had the typical middle-school things to worry about like friends, clothes, dances, sports, finding time to hangout with friends, Instagram and eating as much food as possible. Sadly that is not my case.
Diabetes in on my mind all day! Because I’m constantly dealing with my diabetes care (low/high blood sugars, testing 6-10 times per day, counting carbs and so much more) I loose a lot of class time, study time and sleep. It affects my ability to focus during class and maintain top grades. I’m growing taller and I want to eat all the time. Unfortunately if I want to stay health, and not have long-term complications, I have to worry about what I eat and when I eat. I can’t eat whatever & whenever I want like most of my friends.
Living with diabetes is not easy, but I don’t let it stop me from doing anything I want to do. Many of you know how hard it has been for my family and me, and although life is easier, we still pray for a CURE every day.
Diabetes is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children. There is some good news though; JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide, and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Last year you gave me HOPE, and helped me BELIEVE my dream of a CURE could come true. On the day of the walk I had many of my family and friends walking beside me, and I felt so special. YOU helped us raise over $2800.00.
I hope you can join us again this year. Whether you choose to pray, give, or walk alongside me as part of my team, know you are making a difference by standing up for me, and the millions of people living with diabetes. It is an overwhelming, oftentimes scary, journey that is made easier by the support and love of family and friends.
I hope you can help me meet my personal goal of $2000.00, and team goal of $3000.00!
I am asking you to help support our fundraising efforts with a donation. Your tax-deductible gift will help make a difference in the lives of people with type 1 diabetes.
To make a donation, click on the "Donate to Tori" button at the top of this page. To join our team, click "Join My Team" button at the top of this page. Any donation amount, great or small, helps JDRF (and our family) get closer to its goal of finding better treatments and a CURE for type 1.
I look forward to seeing you at the walk, and having a lot of fun!
Thank you sooooo much!
Love, Tori ^i^
