Hi! When I was 7, I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I was suited up for a basketball game and we stopped by the doctors for a check up. Since then, I have pricked my finger 15,330 times, have had 1,200 insulin shots and 880 insulin pump insertions. I'm 13 now.
Type 1 Diabetes is an autoimmune disease, unlike Type 2. One day, my immune system decided to attack my pancrease and did not stop until all of the cells that make insulin were destroyed. I will not grow out of it and it had nothing to do with my great health, fitness and eating habbits. It's a genetic dissorder, passed down from my ancestors.
I have gotten good at taking care of my diabetes, but would do anything for a cure. I play baseball and basketball and I hate diabetes during games! I won't let it stop me, but I always want to play hard and not worry about my health like most kids.
On Nov 9th, half a million walkers across the country be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes. Our fundraising goal in San Diego is to raise $600,000. Even the smallest donation will help.
I wish for myself and millions of other Type 1 kids, that there will be a cure for diabetes someday. I believe that will happen in my lifetime, with your help.
From the bottom of my heart (not sure why that's the best part), thank you very much! Cade, CB, "Brownie"
