Hey! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $89 million.
Type 1, or juvenile diabetes, is a devastating disease that affects millions of people, a large and growing percentage of them children.
I am one of those kids who have dealt with diabetes for almost three years. I remember being sick, but I also remember being in the hospital and meeting all the nurses and doctors who helped me cope with diabetes. It's been great not having to go to the hospital since my diagnosis. I have been so happy since having my Insulin Pump which I have had for about two years. My blood sugar has been everywhere between 39 and 525 out of the hospital, when the normal range is 90 and 120. I still love hanging out with friends, going on facebook and going to baseball games with my friends. Diabetes doesn't restrict me from anything I love to do. I still have to count carbs; watch my blood sugar and take insulin, but I know I can do anything I love! I'm participating in the Walk To Cure Diabetes because I wish that me and all my friends that have diabetes didn't have to experience the high and lows of diabetes and the shots and finger pricks daily.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
