I'll be taking part in this year's Walk to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
In short, your donations will help us combat Type 1 Diabetes (T1D).
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
As y'all may know, my wife lives with T1D. She was diagnosed in 1988, at age 4. While many people believe that insulin is a cure for diabetes, it is only a way to manage the disease and try to prevent its complications. That's why I am committed to JDRF, the only global organization with a strategic plan to fight T1D. JDRF raises funds for research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until it is no longer a threat to anyone. I'm joining the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes to help raise the most money possible for the research that will help me continue to live a healthier and safer life while scientists search for a cure.
This year marks my wife's 25th year of living with Type 1 Diabetes. Since 1988, She's seen some advancements in the treatment of diabetes, such as faster-acting insulin, more accurate glucometers, the introduction of continuous glucose monitoring systems, and improved insulin pump therapy. But a cure is still not a reality, despite what my wife's endocrinologist told her mom shortly after my wife's diagnosis.
As I see it, it's a wily and elusive enemy my wife grapples with daily. I wish it were a simpler, stand up fight for her. But the research JDRF funds will grind away at T1D in time, with help from donations from folks like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Please give to JDRF and help us bring the fight to T1D.
Thanks for your support!
