Dear Family and Friends,
As you all know, our beloved grandson, Rylan, is afflicted with Type 1 diabetes. It has been a year since his diagnosis, and Rylan is now seven years old, starting second grade and thriving - thanks to miracles of modern medicine. T1D's onset has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. At present, there is also nothing you can do to get rid of it. People with T1D must manage the disease by injecting or pumping insulin several times a day, every day. Insulin is not a cure, and it does not prevent the possibility of serious complications like kidney failure, blindness, and stroke.
In November 2012 Team Rylan participated in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes with amazing success. Thanks to the loving support we received, Team Rylan was named Rookie Team of the Year! Here is a picture of him coming off stage with the Trophy.
How can we thank everyone for this support? Well . . .by asking once again to help Rylans Rockers of 2013 as we walk on November 9, 2013. That's why we walk with JDRF - to help them fund research to discover, develop, and deliver new drugs and devices that cure, better treat, and prevent T1D. You can help, too! Either make a donation to support my efforts or join me on Walk day and raise funds to support JDRF. I'm asking you to help support my fundraising efforts with a tax-deductible gift that will help make a difference in the lives of the millions of people with T1D.
It is faster and easier than ever to donate online. If you prefer, you can mail your check to Rylan at the address listed below. Please make the check out to "JDRF" and include his name in the “Memo” section.

Every dollar JDRF spends comes from donors like you! Any amount, great or small, helps JDRF get closer to its goal of moving scientific advances from the laboratory to clinical trials and into the hands of people with T1D.
Together, we can create a world without T1D!
