Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
I'll be walking this year for a second time to raise funds for the millions of people living with and affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D and its complications from people's lives forever.
Type 1 diabetes is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential for the ability to utilize energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure. Type 1 diabetes never quits and there are no breaks from its implications. Not a day goes by in which people with T1D are not impacted by the disease and its complications.
As many of you may know, I was diagnosed with T1D in April of my senior year of high school. As if moving away to college wasn't stressful and scary enough, I suddenly had to deal with a life-changing and chronic disease with no cure. I immediately began taking multiple daily insulin injections and testing my blood glucose 8-10 times per day. I decided to devote my career to finding a cure for this serious disease so that one day- even if not in my lifetime- people would no longer need to worry about being diagnosed with this life-altering disease and living with its serious long-term complications. Today, 11 years later, I work for ViaCyte- a company dedicated to developing a cure for type 1 diabetes and freeing patients from the daily consesequences of living with this disease.
JDRF supports researchers and companies like ViaCyte in the fight to create a world without type 1 diabetes. JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. The science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you. I still take daily insulin injections and test my blood glucose 10 times a day, but with your help and JDRF's efforts the prospect of ending this disease within my lifetime is closer than I ever imagined possible.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible today?
Thank you for your support!
