Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
As you may know, our family's life changed dramatically on January 20, 2010, when a phone call woke us up at 3:00 a.m. with the pediatrician telling us to wake up and go to AI DuPont following a blood test. We found out that our younger son, Kevin, had type 1 diabetes. Kevin was six years old at the time, and after three days in the hospital, we were sent home to our new life of counting carbohydrates, calculating insulin does, giving injections, and so on. In November that year, Kevin began using an insulin pump, which has given him a little more freedom than the regular injections, but his life has been forever changed.
Kevin has been a champ, and in the last three years, we have all learned to manage his diabetes. Diabetes is a manageable disease, but it requires constant and diligent management. Kevin will not let diabetes hold him back, and he looks up to Jay Cutler, the Chicago Bears quarterback with type 1 diabetes. Kevin plans to play in the NFL one day, and he will not let diabetes hold him back.
Help me to help Kevin. We will be walking again this year to help raise money for a cure. Join us in the walk, or make a small donation to help the fight against diabetes. We appreciate your support!
