I'm walking to help find a cure for diabetes!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our nationwide goal of raising $94 million. Our walk will be on Saturday, April 12th at the Jacksonville Fairgrounds.  Come out early and show your support.  Join our team today.  The walk will start at 9:00 AM.

A diagnosis of T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Currently, there is no cure. People with T1D must manage the disease by injecting or pumping insulin several times a day, every day. But insulin is not a cure, and it does not prevent the possibility of serious complications like kidney failure, blindness, and stroke. It was 10.5 years ago that Kara was first diagnosed.  Kara recently summarized her life with diabetes for the last 10 years.  Here is her summary in her own words:

Countless doctors visits/check-ups, two hospital stays, thousands of test strips, 4 pumps, a stolen pump, waiting on the 5th pump, 4 meters, 7 diabetes camps, a bunch of needles, endless amounts of insulin bottles, Lantus, many site changes, thousands of shots, a whole bunch of pump site tan lines, 3 diabetes walks, tons of batteries, thousands of finger pricks, crazy amount of lancets, enough alcohol wipes to clean an entire city, gallons of juice consumed, tons of Air Heads to combat my lows, many nights waking up with a bad pump site and high or low blood sugar, 6 cases of Keytone strips, one low blood sugar reading of 22, one high reading of 555, hours upon hours of prayers lifted up, carbs counted, many tears cried, thanks given, supplies forgotten, thousands of pump cartridges, many books, 3 doctors, a lot of advice - some good some bad, one diabetic trial study, lots of new friends made, several pump cases bought, many times on my knees completely trusting in God, many scary sleepless nights with crazy blood sugars, countless blessings, many times figuring out where I should wear my pump under my dress, many opportunities to share Christ with fellow diabetics and how i get through this disease relying on His strength, many practices/games sat out because of my blood sugar being bad, and countless other items I could list.......

I don't think I need to tell you just how very proud her mom and I are of her.  She is a fighter.  She is a trooper and she is a CHAMPION not only because of what she's had to live through but because she is paying it forward and wants to help those less fortunate than us.  Please support our commitment to creating a world without T1D by visiting my personal fundraising page and making a donation. The online donation form takes just a few minutes to complete, and your gift will help so many people.

Type 1 diabetes (T1D) is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults suddenly.  As you may or may not know, we have been personally touched by this disease in our own family.  There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.

I am asking for your support. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.

Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

    Thank you for your support!

    Blessings,
    Greg & Karen
