Dear Friends and Family,
We have almost completed the full cycle of school with a Type 1 Diabetic child. That is really hard to believe. I will never forget having to send my 5 year old daughter that was just diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D) to kindergarten! That was the hardest thing for me to do as a Mom, to give my sweet girl over to someone else and hope and pray that she made it through the day without anything terrible happening with her blood sugar and T1D.
Emily is now a senior at Ponte Vedra High School and I am so proud of the woman she has become! She is so very responsible, warm hearted, emotionally strong, level headed, beautiful inside and out. And what makes me most proud is that she has become this person even though she has had to deal with getting 4-8 finger pricks daily, 4-6 daily insulin shots - living 24/7 with (T1D) type 1 diabetes!
I know that we ask for money every year for JDRF. The reason we do is because I have seen first-hand how much better her life is because of what JDRF does. Every dollar we raise makes life easier for Emily and all the other children and adults dealing with type 1. People always ask us if she is "under control", well when you have T1D, you are NEVER under control. Every day it is a struggle! Emily has to think about everything thing she does.....how many carbohydrates are in this, is my blood sugar to low or high to exercise, when is the last time I got insulin, etc.
Emily has not let T1D slow her down or stop her from doing anything. She is willing to do whatever it takes to help improve the lives of everyone with T1D. Emily is a true picture of strength and courage! We are so blessed to have such a wonderful, caring daughter. It's my families dream for Emily to live a long and healthy life without any complications. And with your help and support that dream is possible. Every dollar raised gets us closer to a cure and helps to improve the daily lives, so no amount is too little!
You can help by making a donation to Emily’s Team and/or joining Emily’s Walk Team.
Everyday around 40 children and 40 Adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, T1D. It is an auto immune system disease that can strike anyone at any time. There is NO cure; insulin is just a "band aid".
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. JDRF funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
Thanks so much for your time and I hope everyone has a blessed day!
