Dear Friends and Family,
It has been an interesting year for Emily and us. It has been 12 years that she has been getting 4-8 finger pricks, 4-6 daily insulin shots - living 24/7 with (T1D) type 1 diabetes! Her day to day life has improved over these last 12 years because of the money raised for research! That is why we ask every year for your help. Every dollar makes life easier for Emily and all the other children and adults dealing with type 1.There are still many struggles we deal with. People always ask us if she is "under control", well when you have type 1 diabetes, you are NEVER under control. Everyday it is a struggle! Emily has to think about everything thing she does.....how many carbohydrates are in this, is my blood sugar to low or high to exercise, when is the last time I got insulin, etc. She is now a licensed driver! Most teenagers can grab their keys and off they go, but not Emily she has to have a good blood sugar before she gets behind the wheel. Emily has been in a new study Nemours for a new long acting insulin and she has been a "trooper"! She has had her blood drawn FIVE times now and you would think that for a child that gets poked and stuck so many times a day that it would not be a big deal to have blood drawn, but it is. But she is willing to do what ever it takes to help improve the lives of everyone with T1D. Emily is a true picture of strength and courage! We are so blessed to have such a wonderful, caring daughter. It's my families dream for Emily to live a long and healthy life without any complications. And with your help and support that dream is possible. Every dollar raised gets us closer to a cure and helps to improve the daily lives, so no amount is too little!
You can help by making a donation to Emilys Team and/or joining Emilys Walk Team.
Everyday around 40 children and 40 Adults are diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, T1D. It is an auto immune system disease that can strike anyone at any time. There is NO cure; insulin is just a "band aid".
There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. JDRF funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
Thanks so much for your time and I hope everyone has a blessed day!
Our best,
Sam, Pam, Emily and Austin
