Hello! I'm walking again this year in hope of finding a cure for diabetes. As most of you know, my sweet girl, Hadley, has juvenile diabetes. She'll be 7 in September and has never celebrated a birthday without diabetes. That's right. She's been living with this bear of a disease since she was only 11 months old when it nearly took her life. Since that horrible day, she's been one tough "Cook"ie. She pricks her little fingers every 3 hours around the clock, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. She never gets a vacation from it. Wherever she goes, her meter and emergency glucagon are always in hand. She always has her insulin pump hooked into her to keep her alive.
You read right. Insulin is NOT a cure. It's just keeping her alive. She didn't eat too much sugar or not exercise enough; her own body attacked itself. She didn't do anything to deserve this devastating disease. She's a brave little girl and I'm super proud of her, but it breaks my heart when she cries and says she hates diabetes. I have to wonder what the future will bring....kidney failure, tingling or numbness in her feet, amputations, blindness, heart failure or a CURE so she lives a long, healthy life!!! That's what I choose to believe. Hadley WILL be cured, it's only a matter of how soon.
That's why I'm walking for the sixth year with Hadley's Heroes to raise money and awareness to one day (soon) find a cure for Hadley and the millions of others suffering from this devastating disease. Please help me reach and exceed my goal of $500. Be a part of the cure! Every donation is appreciated, no matter the size! I will gladly take the change in your car! You can donate by check, cash, or credit card thru this page. Make checks payable to JDRF. Donations are tax deductible. Also, we'd love for you to walk with us on October 19th at Atlanta Centennial Olympic Park.
Thank you so much!
