Hello! This year, we will again be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $85 million. Team "Presley's Posse" will be walking on Saturday, October 20th, at Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta. Last year, with your help, we managed to raise $7000 and Nationally we raised $80million !!
Why are we walking?
We walk for our Presley. We walk for the 30,000 people who are diagnosed with T1D every year in the United States, that's 80 people every day. Whilst you have been reading this, another person was diagnosed with diabetes.
T1D is an autoimmune disease that strikes randomly and has nothing to do with lifestyle or diet. Currently there is no cure - balancing insulin with daily activity throughout the day and night is simply a life support system until we find a cure. That is why we walk.
And until we find a cure, money raised helps treat T1D. We are making significant progress with the development of an artificial pancreas, a closed loop system that links continuous glucose monitioring and automated insulin delivery, which together function more like a normal pancreas. Believe me when I say this would make life a lot easier for individuals with T1D !!
We would love to invite everyone to join us on the walk this year and/or make a donation. If you would like to walk with Presley's Posse on the day, please let us know as we will be providing t-shirts, designed by a dear friend, for our team. The walk is truly a great experience, fun for families and friends and provides hope, empowerment and a sense of community. If you would like to make a donation just click on the "donate" link. "Mile of Hope" signs are another way to show your support. It is a great way to contribute with several others, and have your personalized message of hope appear along the walk route for Presley to see. They are available for $150 until Monday, October 8th. We cannot express our deep appreciation for the love and support everyone has shown. We hope to see you on the 20th!
Together, we can make the cure a reality for Presley and millions of others.
