I'm 27 years old and currently live in Atlanta, GA. I work at Turner Broadcasting as an Interaction Designer, and in my spare time (ha!) I play guitar/drums, record/mix music, and cook food with my fantastic girlfriend Laura Fries.
About My Diabetes
I've had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 5 years old- 23 years this spring! I've gone through countless insulin regimens, glucose meters, glucagon pens, and thousands of gallons of orange juice in my life as a diabetic.
Autoimmune disease is tricky to live with. I have to keep track of many different factors, including glucose levels, allergic reactions, physical activity, diet, sleep, as well as the medicines that I take (insulin, synthroid) just to keep healthy.
With the prevalence of Type 2 diabetes, much of the commercial research and development goes into new treatments and medications for this metabolic disease- there is a clear market, and clear profit to be made.
JDRF is an amazing organization dedicated to funding (unprofitable) research towards a cure for Type 1 Diabetes. I wholly support this effort, and am excited to be in a place in my life to be able to contribute towards a better future for those afflicted with this disease.
