We are building on our success. We have raised over $30,000 so far this year as a team. But there still isn?t a cure for Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) or Cystic Fibrosis (CF), so we are still cycling for a cure. AND we will be walking for a cure as well.
What are the odds that we would have two great events on the same day? October 15 We are walking and cycling on the same day. Half the team will be virtual riders or walkers as we support the JDFR Walk for a Cure and the CF Cycle for Life event. Both great causes and both need a cure.
Personally, I am very proud of my son Nick who is the spokesperson for the Moe's Southwest Grill team at the Centennial Park JDRF Walk for a Cure. Nick is 15 years old and Type 1. He is a great athlete and wonderful kid and now is helping to motivate the Moe?s team to raise $10,000 for a Type 1 Diabetes cure. Congratulations, Nick and thanks for doing something.
Team RonnShack was proud to ride the inaugural CF Cycle for Life event last Fall. The initial event raised over $77,000 in Atlanta and over $1 MILLION nationally. But that is just the beginning. We've got grand plans for this Fall. We will be riding out of Serenbe Farms on October 15. It is a beautiful location in the heart of the "Silk Sheets" cycling area. Serenbe Farms has a great small town feel and will be a great venue for families as well as cyclists.
Plus, we are not alone. Our success has encouraged others to cycle across the country. There will be more than 60 CF chapters riding this year. This is an important new cycling event could raise over $3 MILLION this year, nationwide.
Team RonnShack had a very successful Spring cycling season fielding 38 cyclists and riding over 1,500 miles at Tour de Cure. This summer Christine and I will ride the Lake Tahoe event for Type 1 Diabetes. October 15 is the CF Cycle for Life event.
Every fall we cycle to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Both diseases, T1D and CF are close to our family and both can be cured. A cure is not a dream, it is a fact. Enormous strides have been made recently in finding new technologies and new drugs that extend and improve the lives of individuals that we love.
We continue to cycle for a cure and now walk for a cure. And we will keep cycling and walking until there is a cure. Please consider joining our team or contributing toward a cure. Thanks for working to make CF stand for Cure Found and for helping make Insulin pumps, finger pricks, sugar highs and lows as thing of the past.
