Thanks for taking the time to leave Facebook, Twitter, Candy Crush (I know ya'll are addicted, I get the requests all the time!) and come to our team fundraising page!
So I know everyone hates reading those long paragraphs about what I'm doing and why. And then the real message gets lost, so I'll try to make this short and sweet.
Basically, I'm raising money for Type 1 diabetes (T1D). T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease (the internet told me this means the body is pretty much fighting itself) in which a person's pancreas stops producing insulin - a hormone essential to the ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and changes life as they know it forever. It cannot be prevented and there is no cure.
The jist is, as with any disease, research takes money. All those materials, chemicals, tests...well they don't just appear as much as I wish it worked that way. Then those intelligent scientists do something complex and way over my head and form treatments and, hopefully one day, a cure. So that's why JDRF needs our help. Plus those crazy scientists don't work for free you know?
On a serious note, JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
The challenge we've set ourselves - to raise money for JDRF and to walk - is modest compared to the daily challenges of life with T1D, which involves a 24/7, unrelenting cycle of blood sugar testing and insulin injections to manage the disease. Imagine how this would affect your daily schedule. What about the activites you enjoy? Think of what you'd be limited on. Think what your children would miss out on growing up.
So please support my team and me by donating to our Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease. Think of all the children, mothers, fathers, uncles, teachers living with this. So cut out your Starbucks for the day, maybe bring your lunch to work instead of going out that day, drive past Kripsy Kreme and in place, donate $1, $5, however much or little. Just remember (as cliche as it is) every little bit counts.
