I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes on 8/31/2009. I was 9 years old and just started the 4th grade. I had no idea what diabetes was. All I knew is that I had to take start pricking my finger and take shots for everything I ate. After a few months of shots, I got an insulin pump. I still have to prink my finger, but now the pump gives me the insulin that I need.

Diabetes sucks! All of my fingers have marks from all the finger pokes. It hurts when I have to change my site every 3 days. Most of the time I feel ok, but when my blood sugar is high I feel sick. I get dizzy and my stomach hurts. When it's low, I get shaky and sometimes I can't see very well. I have to count carbs for everything that I eat and take insulin. Unless there is a cure, I have to take insulin for the rest of my life.

The best part about Diabetes is JDRF and the friends I have made. They do a lot of fun things like ice skating, going to the river museum, and the WALK is so much fun! All of my friends and family come out to the mall and they have a ton of fun games to play. Most of the time I only walk a little bit and then play the rest of the time.

Please join my Walk Team or make a donation to help fund a cure. The walk is Saturday, February 23rd inside Westdale Mall, Cedar Rapids. We will have team photo at 9:15 am on the lower level behind center stage in the old Von Maur store. After the photo, we will meet on the Upper Level near Younkers & the entrance to start the walk together as a team.
