Join me in the fight to cure, better treat and prevent type 1 diabetes!

Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!  I'll be taking part in this year?s Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D).  If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening.  And they know it never goes away.

My daughter Elizabeth was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes in 2009 at age 11.  Type 1 Diabetics are insulin dependant.  They must count carbohydrates and take insulin for all of the carbs that they eat.  Liz took 4 shots a day until she got the insulin pump that she currently wears.  It gives her a continual dose of insulin and then gives her additional insulin when she enters the carbs that she's eaten.  The pump is connect to her much like a IV.  She changes her "site" every 3 days.

Liz must monitor her blood sugar at all times.  She checks her blood sugar by pricking her finger several times a day to make sure she stays in the desired blood sugar range.

Liz visits her doctor every 3 months, goes to the Joslin diabetes center to meet with her diabetic nurse, and has an A1C test which is a measure of her blood sugar over the past 3 months.

When we travel, Liz has to bring a lot of medical supplies.  Insulin, pump supplies (reservoirs, sites, IV prep, batteries), blood glucose monitor, test strips, ketone test strips, glucagon emerency kit, glucose tabs, back up insulin and syringes in case her pump fails, ...

Staying healthy with T1D is a lot of work.  But Liz doesn't let T1D slow her down.  This year she's staying busy with the Dance Team, Marching Band, Musical, Show Choir, Concert Band, Concert Choir, and more.

I am asking for your support.  Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts.  By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.

Did you know that:

  • T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
  • T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
  • Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
  • Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D.  JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.  Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?

We are working on team shirts.  Estimated cost is $10 for short sleeve t-shirt.  More information to come once we finalize the details.

Thank you for your support!
