Who is my Type 1?
Meet Adam! My beautiful little boy. At just 18 months old, he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. That day will be forever burned in my mind. My precious baby boy was on death's door. Luckily, we made it to the children's hospital in time. We spent a week in the hospital with Adam learning everything we possible could. The scary part was that we had it learn it immediately. There was no time to study to prepare for a final exam. The information was overwhelming and it was scary to think that Adam's life depended on us learning everything these medical professionals took years to learn, in just the span of a week. My husband and I were to be Adam's pancreas.
Now, at 3 years old, Adam is on an insulin pump and trying to be the best 3-year-old he can be. He is an amzing, smart, courageous, awesome big brother, funny little boy.
I'm joining this year's Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of millions of people with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF advance its strategic research plan to end T1D.
T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people, including Adam, affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
