Welcome to My Personal Page

Hello! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our goal of raising $89 million.

My name is Evan Suchomel [cp3]. I play basketball and I have type 1 diabetes.  I have been diabetic for about a little over a year.  My first year of diabetes was very hard and frustrating. It was hard because my blood glucose was high sometimes and very low sometimes. It was hard to keep it just right. In order to keep things under control I have to poke my finger up to ten times every day.  For part of the year, I took four shots of insulin. Then, in May I got an insulin pump.  This is better because I don?t take as many shots but I am connected to my pump all the time. I can take it off for sports where I might break it.  I still poke my finger a lot; during school, before each meal and snack, during sports and at night.  This is the ONLY way I know if I?m o.k. to safely play or swim or give myself more insulin.  If I get to stay overnight with my friend, my mom worries all night. So far at my check ups, my doctor says I?m doing a good job.

There is some good news, though. JDRF is our best hope for finding a cure. It funds more type 1 diabetes research than any other charity worldwide and it's making progress along many promising paths toward better treatments and a cure.

Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible and help me and my family reach our Team goal of 12,000.00? Together, we can make the cure a reality!

Sincerely, Evan and Family
