Hi this is Katelynn.
Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! This year, I'll be taking part in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes, along with one-half million other walkers across the country, as we try to reach our nationwide goal of raising $94 million.
I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 4 years old. I am now in 1st grade. Every day I check my blood sugar multiple times a day. I now have an insulin pump which gives me insulin every 5 minutes. Without my pump I could not live. There are days I like my pump and days I just don't want to have anything attached to me. My classmates all wonder what that thing is on my belt. I wish it was something cool like a cellphone but it is not.
If my blood sugars are not good then I cannot concentrate on my school work. Sometimes I can't tell that I am low or high without checking my blood sugar. I have to leave my classroom multiple times a day to check my sugars and someone has to check my lunch everyday to help me count my carbs for my insulin at lunch. Everyday for snack I have to eat a snack that I brought, not the one the rest of the class brought, so I can make sure my blood sugars will not be out of control.
My friends are great and help me feel like everyone else but I always know I have diabetes. I walk so that way one day I won't have to check my sugars and so my dad won't have to check his. I walk so no other kids or my sisters will have to get diabetes. I walk for a cure.
Please help by coming and walking and donating to Team Katie Bug. I really appreciate everything you do to support finding a cure and the JDRF.
Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
