Dear Family and Friends,
As we approach Reid's 5yr. anniversary of being diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes, we will once again be participating in JDRF's Walk to Cure Diabetes. Many of you have supported Reid in the past and we are very grateful for your support. We are asking for your help once again this year. We feel so strongly that the cure is in Reid's lifetime! JDRF has made great strides to make life more manageable and normal for kids and adults suffering from this disease.
Reid is currently in the 4th Grade and loves his teacher and classmates. Reid started training in Tae-Kwon-Do last September and is loving it! He is able to do everything that other kids do, but with added responsibilities and stress. Reid continues to check is blood sugar at least six times daily and even more with extra physical activities. He still has an insulin pump which allows him to receive insulin without having to receive constant insulin injections but still has to have his site changed every three days. Everything Reid eats needs to be counted and measured with the total carbohydrates entered into his pump. It is a constant process and any missed carbohydrates results in high blood sugars so we have to be very focused and aware of everything and every time he eats.
If you are interested, there are three ways you can help us make a difference for Reid:
We will be walking in the Downtown Des Moines Skywalk System, Saturday, February 16,2013.
Thank you for your support and we would be honored to see you at the Walk on April 9th.
Thank you for helping us reach our goal!
Sharon, Dan, Reid, Kate and Chloe
