Hi Everyone!
The JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes is earlier this year - only a month away! It is Saturday, February 16th at 8:30am at the Downtown Marriott (700 Grand Ave).
Maybe you've seen me on Ch 13 with Ed Wilson? A group of kids with type 1 diabetes and I are in a commercial with Ed, the weather guy, and it airs during the Ch 13 newscasts. I'm in the front row, right side of the screen, wearing a black coat and hat - I'm the one rubbing my eyes because the sun and snow were so bright that day!
The walk is one of my favorite days of the year! I've had diabetes for 3 years now. I'm getting so much better at controlling my diabetes. I can do everything most kids can do, I just have to check my blood and watch how I'm feeling. Sometimes I get annoyed that I have to take a break from running and playing with my friends to check my blood sugar, but I know it keeps me healthy. I still do 7-10 finger pokes a day to check my blood sugar and we put in a new infusion site for my insulin pump every 2-3 days. I have had my insulin pump for 2 1/2 years and I love it! No more shots (unless I get sick) and I can just enter the number of carbohydrates I eat into the pump and it tells me how much insulin I need.
All the research JDRF does helps create devices like the insulin pump which makes living with diabetes so much easier for kids like me. And hopefully someday there will be a cure!!
Did you know?
I hope you can help support JDRF and my team!
