Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! I'll be taking part in this year’s Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away.
We'll never forget the day that doctors diagnosed our child with type 1 diabetes. It's been just a little over a year now since that day we all cried in the doctor’s office after I gave Eliana her first insulin injection. That day changed our lives forever. As a parent, you never want to inflict pain on your child. It’s gut-wrenching even though you know it’s for the greater good. And that’s why we want to help our family and the millions of families like ours by walking in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on May 10, 2014. Our participation will enable JDRF to fund research that will progressively remove the daily burden, side effects, and complications of T1D until a cure is found.
A diagnosis of T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle, and there is nothing you can do to prevent it. Currently, there is no cure. People with T1D must manage the disease by injecting or pumping insulin several times a day, every day. But insulin is not a cure, and it does not prevent the possibility of serious complications like kidney failure, blindness, and stroke. Over the last year, Eliana has carried a lot on her shoulders. Even though time has passed, the daily regimen of pricking fingers, counting carbs, taking insulin injections, planning meals, determining if you can sleep over at friend's house or participate in class parties, never really gets any easier. Sure, it has become a daily part of Eliana’s life, but it is still a burden; a burden that you never want your child to endure.
Please support our commitment to creating a world without T1D. I am asking for your support in helping to find better ways to help manage this disease and hopefully find a cure so my daughter can live a better life. Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts. By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.
Did you know that:
As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D. JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
Thank you for your support!
