Welcome to JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page! I'll be taking part in this year?s Walk to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes (T1D). If you ask people with T1D, they will tell you it is difficult and life threatening. And they know it never goes away.
In March of 2012 I was diagnosed with TID. The last 11 months have been a year of many changes for my family and me. I have learned how to test my own blood sugars 6 to 8 times a day. I am learning to recognize when my blood sugar is running too low or running too high. I have learned to not eat all the candy and sweets that my friends do and what ?free foods? are for me (bacon, cheese, olives & eggs).
I have also learned that I do not like to have insulin shots! (And I learned that my mother does not like to give them to me!) In August we tested two types of pumps with a trial run. I liked the tubeless pump the best and I was able to get one of my very own. This means that I don?t have to get stuck with a needle four times a day! We still have to adjust the amount of insulin I receive but it is much easier with the pump.
I am doing my best to meet the challenges of T1D and still be a normal 7 year old little girl. I like to ride my four-wheeler, play with Barbies, play house, ride my pony, play with my little brother, and I am especially looking forward to being a Big Sister again this summer.
I am excited about the 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes and hope you will be able to walk with me and my family! It is a lot of fun and it helps me to know that I am not the only 7 year old with T1D.
Thank you for your support!
