Welcome to the "Team Bean" JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!  You may be asking what is "Team Bean"?  "Team Bean" is named in honor of our daughter Sophie "Beaner" Nielsen who was diagnosised with type 1 diabetes (T1D) 3 1/2 years ago.  Since that first scary day, "Beaner" has had to check her blood at least 5 times/day, take shots (now wear a pump), count carbs, and learn how to deal with being a T1D kid.  It has not been easy but "Beaner" is doing great, rarely complains, and is incredibly strong. 

Our family will be taking part in this year?s Walk and we would like to invite you to join us if you are in the Des Moines area.  Here are the details of the walk:

- Where:  Des Moines Downtown Marriott 700 Grand Ave

- When:  Saturday Feb. 16th, 10:30am is when we plan to gather to walk the 2 mile course in the Des Moines Skywalk

We are also asking for your support.  Please donate to my personal fundraising efforts.  By doing so, you can help me make a difference for millions of people living with type 1 diabetes.

Did you know that:

• T1D is an autoimmune disease that comes on suddenly and strikes both children and adults at any age?
• T1D has nothing to do with diet or lifestyle?
• Those living with T1D must carefully balance insulin doses with eating and daily activities throughout the day and night?
• Those living with T1D must test their blood sugar by pricking their fingers for blood 6 or more times a day?

As the leader of the type 1 diabetes community, JDRF unifies global efforts to cure, treat and prevent T1D.  JDRF will not rest until T1D is fully conquered.  Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible?
