Welcome!† For the walk this year I'm actually going to be out of the country for work, so it's virtual walking for me.† Virtual or in-person, any support is welcome.† The Des Moines event is one of the most efficient in the nation as money allocated (90-some percent of every donation for this walk is used for research, as opposed to 70-some nation-wide, if I recall correctly).† Fun stat for the week.† Onto the story...
I am a type 1 diabetic (insulin dependent) myself so I have a particular vested interest in helping out with the event.† A lot of the focus on Diabetes is often on Type 2 (adult onset) since it is preventable and even reversible with changes in lifestyle, diet and exercise.† Type 1, on the other hand, is a chronic disease that occurs without warning, has no cure and requires treatment for the life of the person.† Many advances have been made, like insulin pumps and glucose sensors, that help diabetics live 'normal' lives but it is still a far cry from a true cure.† So that's why we are helping out.
Thank you very much in advance for all the support!!† Every dollar helps to take the next step towards treating and eventually curing Diabetes.† Trust me, it makes†a huge impact in the lives of those people to have this disease.
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
