Last summer we found out our grandson, Owyn, has type 1 diabetes. It changed our family forever. Owyn, who is only five years old, must check his blood sugar at least five times a day and get insulin shots at least four times a day. This will be his routine for the rest of his life because as of now, there is no cure for diabetes.

That is why I am walking as part of Owyn's Dia-BEATERS in the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes on February 16. I hope to raise funds to improve the lives of all people affected by type 1 diabetes -- to look for a cure AND to allow those with diabetes like Owyn to access needed supplies at no or a very reasonable cost. If you ask people with Type 1 diabetes it is difficult and life threatening.  And it never goes away.
