One year ago (April 8th) I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. I don't remember much about that day - my mom and dad say I was really sick. I don't even remember the ambulance ride to the hospital. I do remember the week before I was diagnosed - I was really thirsty all the time, tired and had to use the bathroom a lot! When I came home from the hospital and went back to school, it was a little hard on me to have do all of this extra stuff that my friends did not. Almost one year later - it has become a normal part of my life and my friends (my posse) are all use to it too! I am okay with checking my blood in front of them - - sometimes they gather around my BG meter and make guesses on what the number will be!
Even though I am getting used to the finger pokes, changing my pod location for my pump, counting every carb that I eat, and dealing with sometimes having low or high blood sugars - doesn't mean I like it. I would love to be like all of my other friends and not have to think about taking juice or glucose tabs with me whenever I leave the house.
That is why I am walking this year to raise money for JDRF - to help find a cure for Type 1 Diabetes! Please consider joining our team to raise money or donating to JDRF! With your help we can turn Type 1 into Type None!
Your donation will count towards the team's fundraising total. In addition, please give credit to the person that asked for your support to recognize them for their efforts in creating a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D).
