Becken-ing 4 a Cure

We will turn Type One into Type None

Dear Friends and Family,

On May 3rd we will be walking in the annual Walk to Cure Diabetes, showing our continued support for Nick and Alyssa Becken.  It's hard to believe that it's been 18 years since Nick was diagnosed at age 5, approximately 39,500 finger pricks ago and counting. It's been 14 1/2 years since Alyssa was diagnosed at age 6, making her daily finger prick tally approximately 31,755, just to add a little perspective.  This illness offers no breaks. They have to monitor their diabetes 24/7 and even with strict monitoring, dangerously low or high sugar levels have a way of presenting themselves.  Side effects from this can range from just not feeling well to an ER visit. Both Nick and Alyssa attend BSU and continue to live very active lives despite living with T1D. As you can imagine they are quite anxious for a cure, as well as us all.

On a personal note Nick and Alyssa, as your mother, I just wanted to say how proud I am of you both. Keep up your outstanding work and know that we are all here for you and love you!!♥

So please show your support and make a donation today.

Thank you,

The Becken Family

All donations are tax deductible.

We're helping JDRF create a world without type 1 diabetes (T1D) where no one has to fear developing this serious autoimmune disease. By joining our Walk to Cure Diabetes team and/or making a donation to JDRF, you can be part of the effort to improve the lives of millions of people affected by T1D.

In T1D, a person's pancreas stops producing insulin, which is essential to the body’s ability to get energy from food. It strikes both children and adults suddenly and is unrelated to diet or lifestyle. Managing T1D requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.

JDRF is the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. Every donation, big or small, from donors like you, allows JDRF to fund the critical research needed to find a cure.
