Welcome to my JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes personal fundraising page!
On October 28th, 2013, our family's lives changed forever during an Emergency Room visit for our sweet, 5 year old son, Reilley. The Emergency Room doctor told us he had Type 1 Diabetes and put us on an ambulance to the Children's Hospital. His blood sugar levels were well over 800. We were shocked and devastated, knowing only that this meant the life we once knew and took for granted was never going to be the same. At the Children's Hospital we were inundated with information and overwhelmed with the sheer amount of work that this new lifestyle would entail.
The next few weeks just seemed to blur together, as we tried to adjust and stay strong for our amazing boy. This diagnosis is still fairly new, and as such, we are still in the midst of learning how to live with this condition, but we have decided that this diagnosis is an opportunity. We have pulled together as a team, and are not going to allow this condition to effect our son, or us, negatively. We have the chance to come together and strengthen our family bond, teach our son to face adversity head on and not let anything stop him, to raise awareness of Type 1 Diabetes and to be advocates, not only for our son, but for all those living with this condition.
Reilley's strength and courage is our inspiration, and we will fight for him, and for all those with T1D, with all our might. We have faith that one day there will be a cure, and we will stand strong together until that time comes! We hope that you will be able to stand with us, whether in spirit, by walking with us, or with your donations in support of the JDRF and their continued research into Type 1 Diabetes!
T1D is a life-threatening autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin, which the body needs to get energy from food. Managing the disease requires constant carbohydrate counting, blood-glucose testing, and lifelong dependence on insulin. With T1D there are no days off, and there is no cure.
JDRF is working every day to change that. And, as the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research, every dollar JDRF directs toward its research plan comes from donors like you.
Please support my commitment and donate to my Walk fundraising efforts today. Your gift will make a difference for millions of people affected by this devastating, life-threatening disease.
Thank you for your support!
