Welcome friends & family!
The time has arrived once again for the annual JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes! It has been over 20 years now that I have participated in the walk, and only once since my diagnosis, have I missed this amazing annual event. Last October, for the first time in many years, I did not walk with my team. In October of last year, Mike and I welcomed a new baby girl, Gretchen Lee, into our family. Now, this year, we will walk as a family of 3! Now, more than ever, I am committed to raise funds for the millions of people like myself living with type 1 diabetes (T1D). The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives until no one has to fear developing the disease.
This past year especially, being pregnant and receiving constant monitoring and care to manage my T1D, has opened my eyes to just how far we've come in T1D research and development. Even 20 years ago, being a woman with T1D made pregnancy scary and difficult, complications to both mom and baby as a result of simply having type 1 diabetes. But through the reserach of organizations like JDRF and the strides we have made over the years, I not only had a completely healthy and complication free pregnancy, I delivered a perfect, 7lb, 10 ounce baby!
Just for a bit of background, JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Each year, I come back to you (my amazing and loyal friends and family) and ask for your support. Without you all, I could never be where I am today. I look forward to many, many healthy and happy years with Gretchen.
Thank you for your support!
