Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
When I recently asked my little brother Gabe what he wanted to be when he grew up, he did not reply with the usual "spy" or "ninja" but his response was, "I want to be a scientist that makes a cure for diabetes in a rice krispie treat." Diabetes is an underlying worry in our household everyday. Monitoring carb intake, fears of highs and lows, and the threat of long lasting effects are only some examples. The pump has made things easier, which shows how reasearch for new and better technology is vital to Gabe and our family.
I look forward to a day when Gabe does not have to explain what his pump is, and why he has to wear it, and can eat cake at a birthday party without thinking about how high he will be later. I want him to be able to go to school, eat his lunch, and run out to reccess without having to count carbs. I want him to be able to run around in his little tri cities soccer league without my family hoping he isn't too low.
My little brother is the bravest 5 year old I know. He is very optimistic and is comforted knowing that there are scientist out there trying to find a cure. He started jumping for joy excitedly when my mom told him on a new advancement scientist had made on rats. His positive attitude and hope for a cure inspire our whole family.
Help us fight Type 1 Diabetes and raise funds for the millions of people affected by this autoimmune, life threatening disease. The money raised will help JDRF fund critical research to remove the impact of T1D from people's lives. No donation is too small!!
