Welcome to my personal JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes fundraising page!
With a little coaxing from a few type 1 diabetes friends, I’ve decided to take part in my first Walk to Cure Diabetes on October 5th. Here’s my story…
In May of 2012, and what feels like just yesterday, I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes (T1D), an autoimmune disease in which a person’s pancreas stops producing insulin. It struck me at the age of 22 and changed life as I knew it forever. This past year and a half has been one big learning experience. But I have to say with all that goes into it on a daily basis (checking my blood sugar, taking insulin, counting carbs, etc.), I’m managing the “highs and lows” quite well. This walk is very important for me as it’s true symbolism of how far I’ve come since being diagnosed.
The money I raise will help JDRF fund critical research to progressively remove the impact of T1D from people's lives. JDRF is the largest nongovernmental funder of T1D research and the only global organization with a strategic research plan to fight T1D. This science is complex and costly, and every dollar JDRF is able to direct toward research comes from donors like you.
Please support me and donate to my Walk fundraising campaign. Your gift will make a difference for not just me, but millions of people affected by this disease.
I’m so grateful and appreciative of all my family and friends who have supported me through this new journey. I will be thinking of you all, my cheerleaders, during the walk.
Thank you for your support!
