Hello, I'm Charlie. My brother Henry has been fighting diabetes since he was 2 years old! Henry and I are very close. We even share a room, which can have its downsides. But, not only do I have a brother who's diabetic, but also a cousin! She is now a sophmore at Clemson University. She has only had diabetes for 3 years. So, when she first went to college she had no idea what to do! Now, after 3 years, she is starting to get the hang of it.
When Henry first got diabetes there wasn't very much research being done, so they didn't recommend insulin pumps for little kids. An insulin pump pumps insulin into Henry's body and keeps his sugar level from getting too high. Before the pump, he used to have to take insulin shots every time his sugars were high. And if you hate shots as much as I do, you should press the "Donate to Charlie" button above.
If that's not enough... to know what his blood sugar level is, he has to test his sugars by pricking his fingers with a small needle, then put the blood onto a strip which takes it into the meter. Then the meter shows him his blood sugar level in a matter of seconds. He has to do that every time he wants to eat anything or feels grumpy. I know! It stinks!
But you can help find a cure for diabetes by donating above and helping millions who have type one diabetes.
