Nine years ago, 6 families with children diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes partnered with Will Koch and Holiday World to bring the JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes to Southern Indiana. In the span of these 9 years, we lost Will Koch and one of our own children to this horrible disease. We also gained two more children (within the original 6 families) with a Type 1 diagnosis.
If such a small group can be so affected by this terrible disease, imagine what is happening in the world. Yes, insulin provides a way for them to maintain a "normal" life, but it's far from what most people consider normal. And insulin didn't prevent the loss of life that our small group has endured. Please remember that not everyone who suffers with Diabetes can change their diet and be cured. Please help this country get past the stigma and stop blaming these children for getting themselves sick.
When you have the opportunity to give to the cause, please remember that there are many out there who need a cure and the number is growing every day. Please think of Will and Victoria, and Jessie, Ben, Madeline, Cole and Molly, and now also Kennan and Christian. They and their families need everyone's help, every day to bring an end to this disease.
Now, more than ever, you can make a crucial difference. Won't you please give to JDRF as generously as possible? Together, we can make the cure a reality!
