Hello! JDRF's Southern Indiana Walk to Cure Diabetes will take place May 17, 2014, at Holiday World. I would like to invite you to walk with us to support finding a cure for Juvenile Diabetes.
My granddaughter, Jessie, was diagnosed with Type 1 (juvenile) diabetes at age 2. She will be 17 in June and is looking forward to prom and summer vacation. She was recently inducted into the National Honor Society and has been scouting colleges. Sounds like a normal kid, right? She IS completely normal if you don't count that she has to give herself life-saving insulin because her immune system killed off her insulin-making cells when she was still a toddler! How unfair!
No one knows why that happens. They have some interesting ideas and are hopeful a cure is in the near future. In the meantime, they are doing all they can to make coping with this disease somewhat bearable. Significant strides have been made in the past 15 years, but I want a cure sooner, rather than later. I would gladly give up my pancreas to Jessie if that would cure her, but it's not that simple.
So she is why I walk. She is my #1. She is why I swallow my pride and ask for money every year at this time. If you would like to walk and join us for a day of fun, please join her team. If you can't walk, but would like to donate, please help with any amount you can. $1.00 is not too small. It all adds up.
