My dad was diagnosed as a Type 1 diabetic when I was only a few months old. I have watched him fight the disease my entire life and I have seen first-hand what it can do to a person and a family. I'm happy that my dad could walk me down the aisle when I got married last year because I grew up terrified that we wouldn't have the opportunity. Now I hope that he will be able to meet my children someday.
When someone you love has a disease like T1D you live every day with fear and it affects so much. I walk for the JDRF so that someday no child will have to grow up with the worries of wondering if their mom or dad will be there for them. So many lives have been taken by T1D and it's time for an end.
