Welcome the Rachel's Friends JDRF Fundraising page! Thank you for your interest in helping us find a cure for Rachel and the millions of others living with type 1 Juvenile Diabetes.
On New Year's Eve 2003 at the age of 3, our sweet little Rachel was diagnosed with Type 1 Juvenile Diabetes. That day forever changed our lives. For eight years, we have battled this unrelenting disease and have strived to help Rachel learn to live with diabetes. Despite enduring over 25,000 finger pricks and at least 12,000 insulin injections...she still wears her sweet smile! She is not just a diabetic....she's a devoted daughter, sweet sister, gracious granddaughter, crazy cousin, faithful fun-loving friend, studious student, cheerful cheerleader, dedicated dancer, and an active athlete! And if you know Rachel, you know that, yes, Rachel has diabetes...but diabetes DOES NOT HAVE HER!! In as much as Rachel takes diabetes in strides, she still needs a cure. Having diabetes for as long as she has, her little body is starting to show the affects of her battle. So we continue our fight to find a cure!
We ask that you join us in our support to help JDRF find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The money Rachel's Friends raise will go directly to support its life-changing research.
You have several ways to support Rachel's Friends. You can join our team by clicking the join team link below. Our walk this year will be at Churchill Downs on September 29, 2012. Registration begins at 11am, with the walk starting at 12pm The walk itself is less than a mile, but Churchill Downs offers a great atmosphere for the walk. Before and after the walk there is always plenty of entertainment, everything from live music, fun booths for the kids, and of course food. The JDRF Walk is a fantastic way to make a difference in the millions of lives of people affected by type 1 diabetes. For at least that one day, they will look around and see all the support they have from their friends, family and community. On Walk Day, everyone can have fun and celebrate how much closer to a cure we are because of their efforts.
After becoming a part of our team, join our efforts in fundraising. One easy way of raising $100 is by asking 10 friends and family members for $10. You can write a letter or email to send out, explaining why you are raising funds for JDRF. Or even check with your employer to see if they have a matching charitable donation program. Believe me, every penny adds up!
If you are unable to join our team and participate in the fundraising, please consider making a donation to our team. JDRF is an amazing foundation making incredible strides in research for a cure for Juvenile Diabetes. For the past eight years, we have worked very hard to support JDRF in their efforts to find a cure. In the time since our daughter Rachel was diagnosed in 2003, we have seen benefits from our efforts. Besides research making leaps and bounds towards a cure, even treatment for complications, regular testing Rachel does as part of her diabetes managment, and improvements to her daily required regimen have improved. As parents, you make every effort to protect and encourage your child. Our mission to help find a cure for Rachel, and encourage her to live her life to the fullest...with or without Diabetes.
If you would like to support JDRF by making a donation to our team, you can do so clicking the "Donate" button at the top of this page.
Thank you. Together, we will cure type 1 diabetes and its complications!
