Welcome to our JDRF Walk to Cure Diabetes Team Page!  We are taking the steps to help achieve JDRF's mission: to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.

The money our JDRF Walk Team raises will go directly to support this life-changing research.

Team Ahni is dedicated to an amazing little 5 year old.  Please read her story below.

Ahni is a very happy little girl that loves princesses, singing, dancing, and playing with her sister and friends.  She also has Type 1 Diabetes.  She was diagnosed at the young age of 22 months.  She had symptoms for approximately three weeks before diagnosis.  Her symptoms included weight loss, excessive thirst and urination.  After a few doctor visits, and her not getting better, I realized something was very wrong.  I finally insisted a lab test be done and my fear was confirmed.  As a mother, and a nurse, this was my denial because a chronic illness is not something you want your child to battle.  Her blood sugar was 895, a scary thing for a mom alone at the doctor office with her little baby.  All these thoughts came to my mind, but I had to remain strong for my children and husband.  As everyone was worried of the chance of her going into a coma, God watched over us.  We were transferred to a different facility and once she was put on an insulin drip her blood sugar came down beautifully.  At that point, my husband and I had to learn everything about caring for a child with diabetes which was more than I even knew as a nurse.  Our life since then has been a journey, conquering the disease as a family.  She was on five injections a day and the doctor suggested an insulin pump.  I did a lot of research and finally decided to try.  It has made her life so easier with better blood sugar control. She was so excited not to have shots she would do a "no shot dance." Ahni's blood sugar for the most part are in  good control but we are very cautious with everything she eats.

Please join our family and the family others affected with diabetes.  Walk for a cure.
